Ahilyanagar: Residents have filed about 850 objections on the reservations proposed in the Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation's draft development plan with the municipal commissioner's office. More have been lodged with the office of the director of town planning, so the total is likely to come close to 1,000.

Residents, landowners, traders and social organisations have objected to the public reservations, road widening and zoning shown in the plan. Landowners account for many of the objections because reservations proposed for schools, gardens, playgrounds, sewage treatment plants and parking lots take in private land. The largest number has come from the Kedgaon and Nalegaon areas.

The draft plan proposes reservations at 379 sites covering 415.15 hectares. Its total planning area is 6,809.97 hectares, of which 6,082.15 hectares is classified as developable and 726.92 hectares as non-developable.

The administration has begun sorting the objections by subject. The general body has recommended three corporators for the hearing committee; once the state government approves the committee, objectors will be sent notices and heard in person. After the hearings, suggestions found reasonable will be included and the revised plan sent to the state government for final approval.
