If you had work at the bank or in the share market on Dasara, it will have to wait. The Reserve Bank of India’s Mumbai and Nagpur offices both list today, Tuesday 20 October, as the Dasara-Vijayadashami holiday, so bank branches across the state are closed. There is no trading today on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) either.

What is shut, what works

  • Bank branches: closed. Cash deposits, lockers and paperwork will have to wait until Wednesday.
  • UPI, mobile banking, net banking and ATMs: working as usual.
  • NSE and BSE: no trading in shares or derivatives today. From Wednesday, 21 October, the market opens at its usual hours, 9.15 am to 3.30 pm.

Another holiday this week

Banks are also closed on Saturday, 24 October, the fourth Saturday, and on Sunday, 25 October. That leaves just three days, Wednesday to Friday, for branch work this week.

Plan your day

  • Use ATMs or UPI for urgent cash; check your bank’s daily limit before a large payment.
  • If you pay online for Dasara gold or a vehicle, keep the transaction receipt safe.
  • Plan any share trades for Wednesday’s session.
